About
These aren’t just words. It’s what we believe at Artlas, and it’s the closest thing we have to a reason for existing.
Most of our customers aren’t working to survive. They’re working to get somewhere — a week in Vietnam, a winter in Europe, a city they’ve wanted to see since they were nineteen. The world got smaller in one generation, and travelling is now one of the strongest things people want.
A photograph holds one day. A magnet holds one gift shop. A map holds all of it at once — and it keeps holding the places still on your list.
So that’s what we make. Layered wooden world maps, cut and finished in our own workshop. It’s the biggest thing we make, and the piece most people come to us for.
Our maps are drawn from Natural Earth’s 1:10m data, the set professional cartographers work from. The coastline is cut as it really is — the bays, the inlets, the small islands — to a hundredth of a millimetre. Names are printed onto the wood rather than burned in, so the type stays fine enough to find the city you stayed in.
India is drawn the way India draws it: the Survey of India boundary, with Jammu and Kashmir, Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory. We’re an Indian company. That isn’t a technicality to us — it’s the honest map of our own country, and we would rather tell you we have done it than leave you to assume.

Birch plywood. It costs us several times what MDF costs, and we use it because it stays flat on a wall through an Indian monsoon.
The back of every piece carries adhesive across its whole face, not a few small pieces of tape at the corners and edges. That is what pulls each piece flat to the wall and holds it there.
All of it takes longer and costs more. We don’t cut corners on it, and we only promise what we can deliver.
